45 Years of New Wave History
1979 - The Beginning
Mike Score forms A Flock of Seagulls in Liverpool with brother Ali Score and Frank Maudsley. The band takes its name from a line in The Stranglers' song.
1980 - Lineup Complete
17-year-old guitarist Paul Reynolds joins, completing the classic lineup. Band begins playing Liverpool clubs.
1981 - First Success
"Telecommunication" becomes underground hit. Band signs with Jive Records.
1982 - Breakthrough Year
Debut album "A Flock of Seagulls" released. "I Ran (So Far Away)" becomes international hit, reaching #9 in US and #1 in Australia. MTV plays video every 10 minutes at peak.
1983 - Grammy Win
Win Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for "D.N.A." Release "Listen" album featuring UK Top 10 hit "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)".
1984 - Third Album
"The Story of a Young Heart" released. Band relocates to Philadelphia, USA.
1986 - Changes
"Dream Come True" album released. Original lineup dissolves. Mike Score continues with new musicians.
1995 - Return
"The Light at the End of the World" released - last album of original material for 29 years.
2003 - VH1 Reunion
Original lineup reunites for VH1's "Bands Reunited" show.
2004 - Brief Tour
Original members perform limited US tour dates together.
2018 - Ascension
Classic lineup reunites to record "Ascension" featuring orchestral versions of hits.
2021 - String Theory
Release "String Theory" with philharmonic arrangements. Mike Score moves back to Liverpool from US.
2024 - Some Dreams
At age 71, Mike Score releases "Some Dreams" - first album of original material since 1995. Band continues touring with new lineup.
2025 - The Journey Continues
Extensive US tour dates scheduled. The new wave legacy lives on...
